The system is comprised a of two-way voice console unit that is the size of a telephone answering machine. This connects to your existing phone line with your telephone, it does not require it's own phone jack.  There is also a lightweight waterproof personal activator button that you wear around your neck or wrist. If assistance is needed, you simply press the button activator that you are wearing, from any room in your house, and the medical alert console unit is signaled to dial the emergency center.  The console unit will then open a two-way voice connection (sort of like a speaker phone) with trained emergency operators. There is no need for you to reach your telephone.

The emergency operator will be able to hear you from anywhere in your home.  They have a 50 time amplification to assist with this.  But generally speaking, it is the same as having another person in your home...the farther you are away from the room they are in, the louder you want to speak.

With your medical alert service, a personalized file is created at the emergency center.  This file contains your medical history and the names and phone numbers of the important people in your life...your family, friends, neighbors and doctor. Instant access to this vital information ensures that you receive the right care at the right time and keeps you and your loved ones in close contact. Even if you are unable to speak, the emergency response team knows who you are, where you live and who you have designated personally to be contacted.

Situations where the emergency operator may be unable to hear you speak can also include being in your yard or other area too removed from the base unit or even if the TV is up too loud.  In this case the emergency operator will attempt once to call you by telephone.  In the event that you do not answer, the emergency operator will then follow your pre-authorized instructions to contact your friends, family or even your local police, fire department or paramedics.
